The South Australian Democrats have released a secret Government report which shows life for people with disabilities and their families is far worse that the Government acknowledges.

The report looks at the unmet needs of South Australians with physical disabilities.

“Every case history is a story of human struggle against depressing odds,” SA Democrat Kate Reynolds said.

“But what really condemns the Government is the sheer number of such stories right around the State.”

Ms Reynolds today released the study, which was conducted through the Department of Families and Community Services.

“We already know that many hundreds of intellectually disabled South Australians are denied the very basic services most people take for granted,” Ms Reynolds said.

“This information – which the Government doesn’t want released – shows that people with physical disabilities are just as badly off, and in some cases more so.

“The level of unmet need in South Australia shames the entire State.

“The South Australian Democrats want the level of funding for people with disabilities raised to be among the best in Australia, instead of languishing down the bottom as we now are,” Ms Reynolds said.
